Walter Quirt’s Art 1948‑1949
Paintings completed during this period represent another stylistic direction, although their compositions were continuations of the geometric grid works found in 1946‑47. The figures were reminiscent of the caricatured images from Quirt's illustrations in the early thirties, but they were static and remained quietly within their geometric niches. The paths of brushstrokes became an integral part of canvas designs, softening edges and highlighting areas of color. Titles continued to be humorously surrealistic, but the content of the paintings became more personal; paintings related directly to events in Quirt's life, as in the Evil of Drink, 1948
